Coyotemath is a mathematics assistant for users who aren’t mathematically inclined.

Coyotemath solves your math problems, even when you’re not sure what you want. By asking a series of questions, sometimes illustrated with diagrams, it determines the right kind of calculations to be performed – or you can go directly to the correct procedure if you know what is needed.

Coyotemath knows about pure mathematics, but we expect that most users will use it to solve practical problems in many areas. For example, it will

  • estimate the weight of a bundle of lead pipes, or the weight of a round tank filled with water

  • calculate return on investment (ROI) for a project with uneven expenses and revenues

  • estimate the likelihood that a breathalyzer, drug, or medical test gave an incorrect result

  • calculate the lengths of boards needed needed for rafters and trusses

  • look for patterns, relationships, and correlations in data

  • compare the fairness of several different ways to re-district a county for elections

  • estimate the number of a randomly selected sample of packages which will be below a given weight

  • predict future values based on past experience

  • describe a large group with a known margin of error by testing or polling a sample of its members

  • compute how much power will be lost if solar panels are mounted at less than optimal angles and orientations

  • determine if two drugs used together have a greater incidence of a side effect in patients, compared to the use of only one of the two

  • estimate how likely you are to win or lose a given amount of money in a dice game

Coyotemath will ask you for the measurements or other data it needs to do its work. It can import from other programs or from spreadsheets, and export as well. Data sets can be copied and edited, allowing you to do several variations of a solution by modifying some of the parameters and conditions.

Coyotemath will export or print calculations, results, formulae, data, and summary explanations of the reasoning used to solve problems. You can incorporate these exported documents, charts, and other material into a word processor or web site.

Coyotemath is available in four forms: for smartphones, for desktops and laptops, for servers, and for the cloud. Some capabilities aren’t available in the smaller versions, especially in the smartphone version, because of platform limitations.
